A Novel Competition Winners!

Meet the winners of LJ's first A Novel Competition, a writing contest for NaNoWriMo participants.

We had almost 50 book jacket/book summary entries in our contest this year, and it was incredibly difficult to narrow the pool to just five finalists.

A big thank you to Mark Coker, from Smashwords, who graciously helped select the overall winner:

Congratulations to Grand Prize Winner: behindtonsils!

Mashable Awards 2011

Congratulations LiveJournal on being named a finalist in the 2011 Mashable Awards: Best Social Network.

For more than 10 years, LJ has changed the way people communicate with each other. Our global reach spans across millions of users, journals and communities. We have been with you when you were bullied (bullying_begone), when you were obsessed with fanfiction, when you discovered the mind-numbing power of celebrity gossip (ohnotheydidnt) and when you just wanted to share what was on your mind with the rest of the world.

Thanks to our users, LJ has been able to define the core concepts of Social Media: communication, creation and content across all online channels.

"A Novel Competition"

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

What are we talking about exactly?
NaNoWriMo 2011 of course!

Celebrate your momentous accomplishment of completing (or almost reaching) 50,000 words by entering this exclusive contest for all lj_nanowrimo participants.

Star Wars: The Old Republic community

It's not often that players get to jump into a MMO on day one. If you're thinking about playing Star Wars: The Old Republic (or drooling in anticipation of its release like I am) then check out swtor, a community that may become the LJ hangout for fans of this new science fiction MMO.

I'm guessing I can't transfer my Wookie musician from Star Wars: Galaxies into this game...
